Small conical bell terminating in a triangular suspension loop, with thickening of the metal strip at the upper section. Remains of an iron suspension ring for the clapper are preserved. The suspension loop was soldered onto the body and subsequently hammered. <\/p>\n\n
Bells are relatively common finds, and numerous examples are known whose typology relates to the present item, although from different chronological contexts. The piece from the necropolis of Santo Andr\u00e9, Montargil (NOLEN; DIAS; VIEGAS 1994, 122, est. LXXVII (D1-5)) shows similar morphological characteristics, although its four feet point to a use as a table bell. Another example, also from southern Portugal, comes from Alc\u00e1cer do Sal, published without chronological attribution (SCHULE 1969, no. 10, est. 108). At Monte Mozinho (Penafiel), several bells of comparable chronology are known, though with distinct morphological traits, particularly the specimen held at the Museu de Etnografia do Porto, deriving from early excavations with no stratigraphic context (SOEIRO 1984, 263, est. CXXXIV, no. 9). Two further examples from Fi\u00e3es, although lacking precise archaeological context, are associated with materials held at the Institute of Anthropology of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto and suggest a late chronology (ALMEIDA; SANTOS 1972, 14, est. II, no. 7 & 8). Other parallels of wider geographical scope come from the necropolis of Santo Est\u00eav\u00e3o de Alenquer, Paredes (PEREIRA 1970, 69, est. IV, no. 35), and from the villa Card\u00edlio, Torres Novas (ALARC\u00c3O; ALARC\u00c3O 1966-67, 58-88). <\/p>\n\n
