Fragment comprising the rim and upper wall from a mould-blown prismatic bottle. The rim forms a short outward-projecting flange, slightly descending and terminating in a rounded lip. The interior is perfectly vertical and clearly demarcated from the neck by a V-profile recess. Undecorated. <\/p>\n\n
Prismatic bottles are among the most widely represented glass forms in Portugal. Their production began during the reign of Claudius and continued into the 2nd century, reaching its peak during the Flavian period. Specimens from the 3rd and 4th centuries are less common and generally of poorer quality, characterised by thinner glass and increased impurities. <\/p>\n\n
Their main morphological characteristics include a quadrangular body with a flat or slightly concave base. The neck is cylindrical and short, of biconical profile, terminating in a thickened flange rim with a rounded lip. They typically have one or two applied handles of rectangular section with longitudinal ribs, extending from the shoulder to the lower edge of the rim. Their height usually ranges between 12 and 43 cm. <\/p>\n\n
These vessels were blown in, possibly wooden, moulds, whose bases were engraved in low relief with geometric, floral or figurative motifs, as well as workshop marks, which appear in relief on the base after blowing. Their predominant colours are ice-blue and aqua-green.
