Necropoles therefore make it possible to define the perimeter of towns and settlements with considerable precision.<br\/>Burial typology is highly diverse and reflects the economic status of the deceased. Burial practices (inhumation or cremation) were accompanied by assemblages of objects with ritual significance, including ceramics, coins, jewellery, glass vessels and dress accessories. Well-preserved burials frequently yield intact artefacts, which are crucial to date and study comparable materials, more frequently recovered in fragmentary condition from occupation layers associated with dwelling areas.
