Polished double-edged axe (Bipenne)

Origin

Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, Monte Córdova, Santo Tirso.

Material

Grey (R92) amphibolite.

Description

Fully polished bipenne with central perforation. Symmetrical double cutting edge. Central perforation with biconical profile. Circular section. Pointed and sharp cutting edges, showing no clear evidence of use. A possible votive function may be suggested.

Fábregas Valcarce Type I.2B / Late 3rd Millenium – First half of the 2nd Millenium BC.
