Biconical Vessel

Origin

Corvilho Necropolis, Corvilho, Santo Tirso

Material

Ceramic. Compact fabric, with abundant non-plastic inclusions of fine mica and quartz. Outer surface finished by simple smoothing. Traces of exposure to fire (N70). Partially restored.

Description

Hand-modelled vessel with sub-elliptical profile and pronounced inflection at the shoulder. Plano-convex base. Rim formed by a short, outward-sloping flange with rounded lip. Vertical lateral handle of rectangular section, attached at mid-wall. The decoration consists of five small rounded bosses (“mammiform” projections) of sub-elliptical profile, placed on the upper part of the body.
